RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Five thousand people braved the cold and some rain around the Capitol building to watch Gov. Abigail Spanberger be sworn in as the Commonwealth's first female governor.    For people in attendance, witnessing the historic inauguration was the draw. "It’s just an hono r, honestly," said Girl Scout Brooklyn Corsoro. Starting the swearing-in ceremony with local Girl Scouts leading the pledge of allegiance was a moment of history itself. It was the first time local chapters were part of an inauguration.  “This is an opportunity for these girls to remember this experience for the rest of their lives," said Chief Operating Officer of the Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Sheila Johnston. "This is history in the making.”   Diana Brown and Yesy Amaya from Manassas drove two hours and booked a hotel to be there. They said they campaigned for Spanberger and brought in Latino voters. They felt the inauguration was like seeing the fruits of their labor.  "We were just a small part of her success this year," Brown said. “And it just makes us hopeful too that now...Virginia's going to go in the right direction," Amaya said.  Krysta Jones also did a bit of traveling to make it. She drove in from Arlington at 4 a.m. and hopes to see change throughout Spanberger’s time in office.  "It is time for change in the nation and Virginia, and I think she’s really able to lead that," Jones said. ...read more read less
