Cold weekend setup then a brief midweek thaw | Jan. 17, 2026
Jan 17, 2026
TONIGHT
Partly cloudy and sharply colder, with lows in the low teens downtown. West wind around 10 mph keeps wind chills in the single digits for evening plans, so exposed skin gets uncomfortable fast.
TOMORROW
A bright start gives way to increasing clouds, and a few light snow
showers could brush the city late day. Highs stay in the mid 20s. West southwest wind around 10 mph with gusts near 20 mph, so even without much snow, it feels more like the teens most of the afternoon.
TOMORROW NIGHT
Clouds thin late and temperatures tumble to around 10. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph with gusts near 25 mph drives wind chills to around zero in Indianapolis and colder north of town, so this is the first truly bitey night for anyone working outside or waiting on a ride.
MONDAY
Mostly sunny but bitter, with highs in the upper teens for the Holiday. West wind around 15 mph with gusts near 30 mph makes it feel closer to single digits much of the day, and any untreated damp spots on sidewalks can refreeze and stay slick.
MONDAY NIGHT
Clear and very cold, with lows in the single digits. West wind 5 to 10 mph, and wind chills dip to around 5 to 10 below at times, so plan on extra layers for early Tuesday starts. This will hopefully be the coldest we get this upcoming week.
TUESDAY
Sunshine helps, but it is still cold with highs in the mid 20s. West southwest wind around 10 mph with gusts near 20 mph, so wind chills hover in the teens even during the warmest part of the day.
TUESDAY NIGHT
Clouds return as milder air tries to move in, with lows in the low 20s. South wind 10 to 15 mph with gusts near 25 mph, so it is not as brutally cold, but it turns breezy and stays dry.
WEDNESDAY
Mostly cloudy and noticeably milder, with highs around 40. South southwest wind around 15 mph with gusts near 30 mph brings a real thaw and some melting of any leftover slush piles.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
A slight chance of a rain and snow mix early, then a few snowflakes are possible late, but coverage looks limited. Lows settle around 20. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, so watch for a few spotty slick bridges if a brief shower sneaks through.
7 DAY FORECAST
After tonight’s cold, Sunday stays stuck in the 20s with only a small chance for a light snow shower, then the coldest stretch arrives Sunday night through Monday night with the lowest wind chills around and occasional flurries. Tuesday remains dry and cold, then a stronger warmup pushes in Wednesday with highs near 40 and gusty southwest wind. Late week trends cooler again with a small chance for light snow Thursday and Friday, and forecast confidence drops heading toward next weekend as the pattern hints at another system nearby but details are still fuzzy.
