Drivers are being detoured along Marksheffel Road Friday morning as Colorado Springs police investigate a fatal crash near the east gate of Peterson Space Force Base. Both the northbound and southbound lanes between Drennan Road and the east gate entrance have been closed since 5:30 a.m., accordi ng to a post from the Colorado Springs Police Department. The department told Gazette news partner KOAA that the initial investigation indicates that a vehicle rolled, ejecting and killing the driver. Vehicles not entering the base should expect to be turned around back onto Marksheffel. Drivers heading north will be diverted onto Drennan Road. The Police Department expects the area to be closed for an extended time.
