Man sentenced for flashing machine gun downtown amid NBA finals
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man will serve 18 months in federal prison for the illegal possession of a machine gun.
On June 22, 2025, the evening of Game Seven for NBA Finals, 20-year-old A’Jon Hall of Indianapolis, was spotted b
y Indianapolis Metropolitan Police carrying a backpack in Downtown Indy with multiple firearms on Georgia Street. Hall was dressed in all black and was wearing a black face mask.
According to a release by the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Indiana, as police approached him, a large crowd of people ran in panic. Hall repeatedly ignored commands to stop and fled into a parking garage stairwell. During the pursuit, he discarded the backpack and hid between two floors of the parking garage. It wasn’t until multiple verbal commands were made that he surrendered and was taken into custody.
Two days later, IMPD and Indianapolis Fire Departments located his backpack where they found a Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun equipped with a Glock switch, also known as a machine gun conversion device, and a 50‑round drum magazine.
“While we may never know Hall’s true intent that evening, this successful prosecution ensures he will be unable to commit further acts of violence while incarcerated,” Special Agent in Charge Jorge Rosendo of The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said.
Followed by his sentencing, Hall will have three years of supervised release.
