Biggest snows late in the season 1/13 INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana has not seen that much snowfall about halfway through January, coming off a very snowy December. However, the majority of our biggest snowstorms in recent seasons have come later. January is typically the mo nth when Indianapolis averages the most snowfall at 8.8 inches. We have not seen that much snowfall about halfway through the month. However, considering the last 15 seasonal snows, winter is not yet over. Over the last 15 seasons, Indianapolis has had 15 different snowstorms of 5 inches or more. Interestingly enough, eight of those 15 have actually come in the months of February or March. Consider that February is Indiana’s third snowiest month, and March is the fourth snowiest month in the 1991-2020 climate averages. A predicted total of 5 inches or more is the criteria from the National Weather Service for central Indiana to issue a winter storm warning. We will see what we have in store for the rest of the snowfall season. For the latest seven-day forecast, check the Storm Track 8 weather blog. ...read more read less
