Alleged gun manufacturer for Santa Rosa gang indicted on federal charges

(KRON) -- A man accused of supplying a Santa Rosa gang with more than 20 assault weapons was indicted by a federal grand jury, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday.
Jose Alfredo Perez, 41, of Rohnert Park, allegedly built the untraceable and unserialized AR-style rifles for the Angelino
Heights Sureño street gang. Due to shipping restrictions in California, the scheme involved shipping gun parts to an out-of-state address provided by one of the gang members and then having the parts transported to Perez, according to prosecutors.
Law enforcement seized 11 unserialized assault weapons in January 2025 that were allegedly built by Perez. In April 2025, a search warrant at Perez’s residence uncovered “a makeshift firearms manufacturing workshop in Perez’s tool shed and garage, which contained numerous kits for building AR-style rifles along with tools and machinery for assembling the weapons,” the DOJ wrote.

Perez was charged with the unlicensed manufacturing and dealing of firearms as well as firearms trafficking. If convicted, he faces maximum sentences of five years in prison for the former charge and 15 years in prison for each count of the latter. Each count also carries a maximum fine of $250,000.
Perez made his initial federal district court appearance on January 9. He is set to be arraigned on Wednesday.
