(KRON) -- In a span of four hours, 34 drivers in San Rafael were stopped and cited during a pedestrian safety operation on Friday, according to the San Rafael Police Department. The drivers were issued citations for a variety of violations, police said, including failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, driving at unsafe speeds in and around crosswalks, and holding cellphones while driving. The operation occurred from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersections of Mission and Nye streets, Fifth Avenue and Lootens Place, and Fourth and Shaver streets. (San Rafael Police Department) “We hope this operation serves as a reminder to everyone to practice due care and to look out for one another,” said San Rafael PD Sergeant Michael Mathis. Police said this won’t be the only bicycle and pedestrian safety operation in 2026, with another already being planned for a future date to be determined. ...read more read less
