Two North Texas figure skaters will live out their Olympic dreams this February. Amber Glenn of Plano and Emily Chan of McKinney were selected to represent Team USA following their performances at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in St. Louis over the weekend. Glenn wowed the audience, wi nning her third national title. Alongside her teammates, the 26-year-old Texas native spoke with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb about the high expectations facing Team USA. The women’s singles team is considered the strongest in decades. “I think it’s great that it’s not just one person is our singular hope. I think three go at it. Someone’s going to stick,” Glenn said. Glenn spoke about the strong bonds with teammates Alysa Liu and Isabeau Levito. “One of the reasons we get along so well is because not that many people understand what it takes and understand the ups and downs of such an intense sport like we do,” Glenn said. Over the weekend, the Dallas Figure Skating Club shared a message on social media from the Olympian. The organization, which is the fourth-largest skating club in the country, said Glenn had been a member for nearly two decades. “Amber’s consistency at the top level of U.S. women’s skating is the result of years of resilience and relentless work,” said Dallas FSC Club President Mary Pottenger in a statement. “She’s been part of the fabric of Dallas FSC for years, and our members are thrilled to support her family as the Olympic season reaches its biggest stage.” Pairs skater Emily Chan, 28, was also named to Team USA alongside her partner Spencer Howe. The pair had a difficult short program at nationals, but recovered with a strong free skate. Raised in McKinney, Chan now trains at the Skating Club of Boston. She spoke about the emotional journey at nationals shortly after being named to the Olympic team. “I was super shocked after the show with just everything that happened,” said Chan. “I was shocked. Everything moved so fast, but you know, I’m trying to take everything in, and you know, appreciate all of those moments too, you know, because it makes us really appreciate the moments where you know we did it.” This story uses functionality that may not work in our app. Click here to open the story in your web browser. ...read more read less
