SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit Detectives launched an extensive investigation. It was discovered that one day earlier, on Nov. 24, 2025, SJPD responded to an area hospital for a report of a carjacking.
The reporter, an adult male patient, told police he was the registered owner of the Odyssey RV and that it was stolen during a violent carjacking, resulting in head and chest injuries. The man later succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
Additional information from the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner led police to believe the carjacking report may have been false. On Jan. 8, the County of Santa Clara District Attorney's Office Crime Lab confirmed evidence collected at the scene of the hit and run confirmed the registered owner's involvement as the suspect in the crash.
The incident marked San Jose's 40th fatal crash and 41st traffic death in 2025. The driver's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
