A Rush University Medical Center employee was critically wounded in a shooting near the hospital Monday morning.The employee, 23, was parked outside in the 600 block of South Paulina Street about 5:25 a.m. when a dark-colored car pulled up and someone inside opened fire, hitting her multiple times, Chicago police said.The employee, who was in the driver’s seat of a black Jeep SUV, was transported to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in critical condition, police said.In a released statement, Rush said it was “coordinating with the Chicago Police Department after an employee was the victim of an aggravated battery with a firearm outside the Armour Academic Center.”“The victim and their family are at the center of our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said. “Wellness resources are being made available to any staff in need following this incident.”Tenee Harmon, an employee at the hospital for three years, was on her way to a patient’s room when the shots rang out Monday morning. While she didn’t hear the gunfire, a patient told her they heard around seven shots.“The patients are all upset about it, and it kind of upset me a little,” Harmon said. “It makes me feel a little less safe.”Harmon hopes there will be an increase in security around the hospital.“I just hope it gets to be a little bit safer around here in the area,” Harmon said.The shooter fled the scene and was not arrested.Area 3 detectives are investigating. ...read more read less
