Santa Ana winds will push temperatures higher than expected in San Diego County
Jan 12, 2026
The Santa Ana winds that roared into parts of San Diego County over the weekend will start to fade Monday. But the dry, offshore flow could last until Sunday and lift temperatures significantly above average, possibly as high as 77 in San Diego, the National Weather Service says.
The winds gusted 50
to 60 mph in and around Interstate 8 east of Alpine on Saturday, and the Cuyamaca Mountains reported a gust of 88 mph. They blew hard again Sunday, reaching 79 mph at Big Black Mountain and 51 mph at the Mount Laguna Observatory.
A wind advisory will be in effect in East Country through 1 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters said the winds did not increase the threat of inland wildfires because recent, heavy rain saturated the soil.
San Diego’s daytime high in San Diego is expected to be 72 on Monday, 74 on Tuesday, 75 on Wednesday, 76 on Thursday and 77 on Friday and Saturday. The seasonal high is 66.
