Cold start gives way to sunshine and a warming trend across Kentucky
Jan 11, 2026
A slick start to Sunday gives way to clearing skies
We started Sunday with a few snow showers moving through the area, leading to slick spots and some light accumulation in parts of the viewing area. Thankfully, conditions improved as the day went on. Sunshine broke through during the afternoon,
helping melt away any lingering snow. Even with the clearing, temperatures stayed chilly, topping out in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Cold tonight, but quiet weather sticks around
As we head into Sunday night, skies will remain mostly clear and winds will stay light, allowing temperatures to drop quickly. Overnight lows will fall into the low to mid 20s across much of the area. While it will be cold, dry conditions will continue with no additional precipitation expected overnight.
Sunshine and warmer air to start the week
Monday will bring a noticeable improvement in temperatures. After the cold start, plenty of sunshine and a shift to southerly winds will allow highs to climb into the 40s. The warming trend continues into Tuesday, with temperatures pushing into the 50s area-wide. One thing to keep in mind for Tuesday will be the wind, as gusts could reach 25 to 35 mph at times.
Watching the next midweek system closely
Our next weather system arrives Wednesday into Thursday. Rain showers are expected ahead of and along a cold front Wednesday, but colder air rushing in behind it could allow rain to mix with, and possibly change over to, snow Wednesday night into Thursday. Right now, there are still differences in how models handle this system, so confidence in snowfall amounts or impacts remains low. This is a forecast you’ll want to keep checking back on over the next few days.
Colder pattern returns late week and next weekend
Behind the midweek system, colder air settles back in. Temperatures are expected to fall below average again, with highs mainly in the 30s as we head toward next weekend. The overall weather pattern also turns more active, meaning additional systems could move through the Ohio Valley beyond this forecast period.
