EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A jail officer employed at Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Saturday night for fleeing police. 20-year-old Hezekiah Fils-Aime was taken into custody after a high-speed chase with Evansville Police Department and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. The pursuit began on U.S. 41 and ended in a crash near South Road 57. Police reports do not clarify what led to the chase or if anyone was injured. Immediately after the arrest, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office placed Fils-Aime on administrative leave pending further review. An internal administrative meeting regarding his employment status is scheduled for Monday morning. “We have always held our deputies and officers to a very high standard, without exception. The actions taken last night reflect that commitment. I am deeply concerned by the irresponsible and untrue speculation circulating on Facebook. Allegations of bias, favoritism, or a ‘cover-up’ are completely false. Our agency has zero tolerance for misconduct and a well-documented record of holding our own accountable,” Sheriff Noah Robinson of VCSO said in a release. The criminal investigation into the incident remains under the authority of the Evansville Police Department. VCSO said they will fully cooperate with EPD and the Prosecutor’s Office, should further review be necessary. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will assess Fils-Aime’s employment status during the scheduled meeting on Monday morning. The initial hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. ...read more read less
