The alleged driver that caused a collision in Chula Vista that killed two people and seriously injured two others was arrested Thursday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving, police said. Henry Lagliva, 41, is accused of crashing a Ford Mustang into a Subaru Forester that was c arrying a driver and three passengers near the intersection of Telegraph Canyon Road and Apache Drive around 7:45 p.m. Aug. 11, Chula Vista police Officer Justin Turner said in a news release. The SUV overturned and the four people inside of it were trapped, Turner said. Firefighters needed to extricate them before paramedics could begin performing life-saving measures. The SUV’s driver, 62-year-old Michael Baril, died before he could be taken to a hospital. His 76-year-old passenger sitting in the front seat, Juanito Muyco, was taken to a hospital, where he later died, Turner said. Both men were Chula Vista residents. The two elderly women who were sitting in the backseat suffered life-threatening injuries, but survived, according to investigators. Lagliva stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, but was not immediately arrested, Turner said. He was also taken to a hospital for minor injuries. Following a near four-month investigation, Chula Vista police and members of the San Diego Regional Task Force arrested Lagliva at his work Thursday afternoon. Details about what caused the initial crash or what ultimately led investigators to arresting Lagliva were not immediately available.
