Health officials warn of potential measles exposure in Fayette County

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Health officials are alerting the public about a potential measles exposure in Fayette County.
According to a post from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, an unvaccinated, out-of-state traveler stayed at the Hyatt Place hotel in Hamburg between De
cember 31, 2025, and January 2, 2026.
Officials say measles is a highly contagious respiratory virus that can cause serious health complications, particularly in young children.
Symptoms exposure windowMeasles symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure and may include:• Fever• Cough• Runny nose• Red, watery eyes• A rash that usually starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body
Health officials say measles is highly contagious, and people can spread the virus before they know they are sick.
Anyone who stayed at or visited the Hyatt Place in Hamburg between December 31, 2025, and January 2, 2026, and develops symptoms is urged to contact a health care provider before going to a medical facility so proper precautions can be taken.
The health department says vaccination remains the best protection against measles and is urging anyone who may have concerns about possible exposure to contact their health care provider.
