(WOLO)– Deputies with the R CSD recovered a stolen vehicle that was sinking in a pond, said the dept. Richland County Sheriff’s Department said on Thursday, January 8, 2026, around 8:30 p.m. deputies responded to 219 Briarcliffe West in Elgin in reference to a vehicle sinking in a pond. Upon arrival, deputies did observe a white truck fully submerged in the water and initiated a water recovery operation. When the vehicle was recovered from the water, there were no occupants inside, according to investigators. Also, deputies discovered the vehicle had been reported as stolen from the Harbison Boulevard and Woodcross Drive area a little more than an hour before the call.
