PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Protesters were out in Providence Thursday night, demanding the dissolving of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the wake of the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman by an ICE agent.
Several local organizations gathered outside of Providence City Hall demanding an
end to ICE, including the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the Alliance to Mobilize Our Resistance among others.
Newport City Hall was also the site of protest after the death of Renee Good, with attendees calling for the government to put a check on ICE.
“I hope it never happens to someone I love,” said protester Karen Hatcher.
“What if it was your daughter? There’s unlimited control right now in the government.”
The shooting death of Renee Good is at least the fifth death in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
The incident is also at least the 15th shooting of an individual by ICE in Trump’s centerpiece domestic operation.
