WOWO Exclusive – Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith
Jan 09, 2026
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Republican leaders in the Indiana House and Senate have unveiled their 2026 agenda, focusing on affordability, housing, utility costs, deregulation, public assistance, and bail reform. With 2026 being an election year, the priorities are being watched closely.

slee of Fort Wayne’s Morning News, 92.3 FM and 1190 AM, WOWO, spoke with Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith about what these priorities could mean for Hoosiers.
“Over the last year, we’ve really tried to tackle things like property taxes, utility regulation, and affordability,” Beckwith said. “We need to keep pressure on to make sure we help everyday Hoosiers manage these costs.”
Beckwith expressed concern that some efforts, such as property tax reform, have been hindered by legislative setbacks. “The Senate really missed the mark on property taxes last year,” he said. “We’re going to keep pushing because the end goal should be elimination of property taxes. That would actually help Hoosiers.”
On utilities, Beckwith criticized protections for monopolies. “The government has done everything it can to protect these cartels, and it’s not helping Hoosiers. We have to make sure the small guy isn’t getting hurt.”
When asked about healthcare and childcare concerns raised by Democrats, Beckwith said, “Governor Braun is fighting to get healthcare costs under control. That’s a huge priority for him. As for childcare, the government shouldn’t just step in—our focus is on helping people directly without creating entitlement programs.”
Beckwith also weighed in on redistricting and political strategy. He said that failed attempts to redraw congressional maps last year have energized Democrats. “They now see momentum and know Indiana is vulnerable. Republicans need to recognize the stakes and fight to protect the American way of life,” he said.
“Republicans need leaders who know what time it is and how to fight,” Beckwith added, referencing coordinated efforts to defend conservative priorities in upcoming elections.
Kayla Blakeslee will continue checking in with Beckwith every Friday on WOWO, keeping listeners updated on Indiana’s legislative priorities and political landscape.
