Snow that was forecast to hit the Colorado Springs area on Thursday indeed arrived throughout the afternoon and evening, prompting several schools to either implement delayed starts or call off classes entirely for Friday. School District 49, covering northeast Colorado Springs and the Falcon are as, canceled Friday classes. James Irwin and CIVA charter schools were also among the schools to shut down. Several more schools in the Pikes Peak region will begin classes two hours late. A total of 4-8 inches of snow was forecast overnight from Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo. A winter storm warning is in effect until 2 p.m. Friday. “Icy or snow-packed roads will make for slippery conditions, and visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow,” Alex O’Brien, meteorologist with Gazette news partner KOAA, said.
