IU players appreciate Hoosier nation during CFP run
ATLANTA (WISH) — Hoosier nation showed up in a big way for IU’s first Rose Bowl win in program history.
The players appreciated the turnout, and are looking forward to playing in from of the IU faithful again in the Peach Bowl.
“Ho
osier nation, they were a huge reason in why we beat Alabama and the way we beat them, is because it was a home game for us,” IU quarterback Fernando Mendoza said. “I believe it was 80% Indiana fans, 20% Alabama fans, and having that home field advantage means so much to us as players. It’s essentially having the 12th player on the field. And to be able to have another opportunity to play in front of Hoosier nation, it’s such an honor and I can’t thank Hoosier nation enough for all the support.”
“It’s huge for us,” IU linebacker Aiden Fisher said. “Any time we can go to a neutral site like this and make it a home game, it’s absolutely huge for our team and just the atmosphere and the culture around us. There are no fans better in the country than the ones that we have. It’s just special to play for, knowing that they appreciate what we do so much, and they travel, and they’re loud, and they’re hectic, so I’m excited to see them out here Friday. It’s going to be a great game. They will make a difference.”
Kickoff against Oregon in the Peach Bowl in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
