RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmonders took to the streets Wednesday night after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed an unarmed 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 37-year-old mother Renee Nicole Good was shot dead by an ICE agent durin g a traffic stop in Minneapolis, where federal agents had recently launched an operation. Video filmed by bystanders shows how the deadly encounter played out. An ICE agent approached a Honda Pilot stopped across the middle of a roadway and told the driver, Good, to open the door. When Good began to pull forward, another ICE agent standing in front of her vehicle pulled out his weapon and fired at least two shots into the Pilot at close range. When speaking to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Good's mother, Donna Ganger, described her as “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known" and said she was “not part of anything like [anti-ICE protests] at all.” MORE: Woman fatally shot by ICE officer in Minneapolis identified by family, city council In response to this incident, dozens of Richmonders came out to Monroe Park on Wednesday to protest against ICE activity not just in Virginia, but nationwide. "We're out here representing the Richmond community and Americans as a whole, the working class as a whole," protester Reed Baldwin told 8News. "To stand up for ourselves and let Richmond know that the same activity [here] would not be acceptable." 8News was there during the protest and, while the gathering never devolved into an altercation, more than a dozen police officers surrounded the protest.
