A Newark man has been arrested in connection with a family UNO game that turned violent in New Jersey last month.
Derrell Busby, 37, was taken into custody on Monday after he allegedly stabbed an unidentified victim during a Dec. 19 family gathering where a card game was underway, the Clark Township
Police Department announced Tuesday.
“At some point during that party, family members began fighting over a came of UNO,” cops said in a statement posted on social media.
An officer responded to the 200 block of Gibson Boulevard in Clark shortly after midnight, after receiving a report of a “fight involving a baseball bat,” police said. Upon arriving to the scene, the officer witnessed several vehicles fleeing the area. The fight had allegedly spilled into a parking lot of an apartment building, but ended before police could arrive.
While investigating the incident, the Clark Township Police Department received a 911 call from a civilian who was transporting a stabbing victim to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Three days after the altercation, detectives identified Busby — an Uber driver — as the alleged assailant. He was arrested Monday in Newark on assault and weapon charges and was booked into the Union County Jail.
Busby is next scheduled to appear in court on March 4, according to online records.
Mattel purchased the gaming company that owned UNO in 1992, according to the UPI. The family-friendly game involves colored and numbered cards that players try to shed in order to win.
