(KRON) -- A boxing club in Oakland that has trained thousands of fighters was heavily damaged when a stolen car slammed into the club's building and the driver fled the scene, according to a verified GoFundMe page. Lightning’s Boxing Club, operated by former professional boxer Kris "Lightning" L opez, provides youth with an inspirational place to "learn, grow, and thrive," the gym's website writes. The gym recently sustained damages when a red Honda plowed into the building and crashed against a boxing ring, photographs from the scene show. "The driver fled the scene, leaving us with a long road to recovery and a community in need of its safe haven," the GoFundMe page states.
