The driver of the box truck sustained moderate injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. The second crash happened several minutes later. It involved a Ford F250, a Hyundai Elantra, and a Hyundai Sonata. The driver of the F250 rear-ended the Elantra, causing the F250 to roll and slide, hitting the back of the Sonata. The Elantra crossed the center median after it was hit and ended up on the shoulder of the northbound lanes. The driver of the F250 died on the scene after sustaining fatal injuries, and the driver of the Elantra was taken to the hospital. The Sonata driver was uninjured. The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.Northbound I-25 has been reopened, but southbound I-25 is still closed for cleanup and investigation, and traffic is being detoured at the Rugby Road exit (Exit 41).Click here for updates from CDOT.*We originally reported that there was one crash involving five cars, based on information provided to us, but have since adjusted the article to reflect the correct information: two separate crashes involving five cars total.____Watch KOAA News5 on your time, anytime with our free streaming app available for your Roku, FireTV, AppleTV and Android TV.
