A preliminary 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck near San Ramon on New Year’s Day, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake, which was initially reported as 3.2 magnitude and later downgraded to 3.0, hit just before 5 p.m. and was centered 1.7 miles east of San Ramon, the USGS s
aid.
