Suspected mountain lion attack in Colorado mountains under investigation
Jan 01, 2026
Colorado wildlife officers were investigating a potential mountain lion attack near Estes Park on Thursday, according to the agency.
The suspected attack happened in unincorporated Larimer County, south of Glen Haven, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s northeast regional office. Glen Haven
is roughly 7 miles northeast of Estes Park and just over a mile north of Crosier Mountain.
As of 1:40 p.m. Thursday, all three Crosier Mountain trailheads — Glen Haven, Rainbow and Garden Gate — had been shut down for a search and rescue operation, according to the Glen Haven Area Volunteer Fire Department. The nearby Houston Heights trailhead was also closed, the department said.
Limited information about the incident was available Thursday evening.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
