Firefighters extinguish blaze at Santa Rosa highrise apartment

(KRON) -- Firefighters in Santa Rosa extinguished a fire at a high-rise apartment complex on Wednesday. Several apartments were damaged by fire and water, according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department.
The first firefighter unit arrived just after 3 p.m. at 801 Tupper Street for a reported fire alarm
. After not seeing any smoke or fire, SRFD was informed by building maintenance staff that there was a water leak on the 12th floor. Firefighters found one unit on the 12th floor with water coming out of it and upon opening the door, found thick smoke inside.
“A fire sprinkler had activated in the apartment and was holding the fire in check,” fire officials wrote. “Crews inside completed extinguishment utilizing hose lines.”

Residents on the 12th and 11th floors were evacuated as fire crews used fans to get smoke out of the building and worked to clear water from impacted units. One unit was red tagged for fire and water damage, while seven others were yellow tagged for water damage.
The American Red Cross assisted in helping the affected residents find temporary housing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, SRFD said. No injuries were reported in the incident.
