The college football transfer portal has been busy since it opened on Friday as teams bowl games and playoff appearances come to an end. After Ohio State’s quarterfinal loss to Miami on New Years Eve, former Pierre Governor quarterback Lincoln Kienholz has become the latest big name to hit the mar ket. It was no surprise that Kienholz decided to see what else was out there after spending the 2025 season behind Heisman finalist Julian Sayin. Kienholz arrived at Ohio State in 2023 and appeared in just three games for the Buckeyes, completing 10-of-22 passes and throwing for 111 yards. In 2024, Kienholz sat behind Will Howard as the Buckeyes went to the National Championship and beat Notre Dame. Kienholz saw time in 2025, but it was mostly in garbage time after Ohio State had built comfortable leads. He went 11-of-14 passing for 139 and a touchdown, scored a rushing touchdown (2 on the year) against Purdue and ran for 66 yards. Sayin, a sophomore, and Kienholz battled for the starting position in the offseason, but was ultimately earned by Sayin who had a very successful season. With Sayin expected to be the returning starter, Kienholz decided it was time to take his talents elsewhere. Kienholz was the No. 1 player in South Dakota coming out of high school, and was the No. 15 ranked quarterback in the country. Some of the possible landing spots for the Pierre native are Washington where he was committed for 6 months before flipping to OSU, Alabama where he could connect with another South Dakota native in HC Kalen DeBoer, Kansas State who offered Kienholz a scholarship in 2022, and Wyoming who is relatively close to Pierre, and has a history of good quarterback development after seeing Josh Allen ascend to the top of the NFL ranks. ...read more read less
