For New Year’s Eve revelers heading to San Francisco, there are several ways to get there for free. SF Muni is offering free rides from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The agency advises riders to not tap their Clipper cards; otherwise they’ll be charged. Caltrain also will offer free rides starting at 8 p.m. The offer will go until the last train leaves from San Francisco at 2 a.m. Thursday. Santa Clara VTA is offering free rides in the South Bay until 5 a.m. VTA will run on a holiday schedule on New Year’s Day. BART is not offering free rides, but it will have extra trains and extended hours.
