Barbara (LaPoint) Pillans, 95, of Baldwinsville, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. Born on July 1, 1930, in Baldwinsville, Barbara graduated from Baldwinsville Acedemy and began working at the New York Telephone Company in Baldwinsville.
After meeting an
d marrying her husband, George, in 1951, Barbara began raising her children. Barbara and George loved camping and traveling across the country, visiting many states, and finally retiring to Myrtle Beach, SC, for 15 years.
Barbara became active in the Girl Scouts as a troop leader of Troop 61 in Baldwinsville. She also worked as a food service worker at Baldwinsville Central Schools. Barbara was involved in the Women of the Moose in Baldwinsville holding several offices and becoming senior regent. She was also involved in the Onondaga County Home Bureau, serving as chairperson, and an outreach worker for Canton Woods, serving as a poll worker for the board of elections.
Barbara was a eucharistic minister and active in several parish ministries at St. Augustine’s Church in Baldwinsville and St. Andrews Church in Myrtle Beach.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, George, in 2007.
Surviving are her children, Nancy Wilson and John Pillans; two grandchildren, Christine (Ben) Rhody and Steven (Amanda) Wilson; six great-grandchildren, Emily (Aloysius) Nothem, Allison, Logan, Billy, Jaxson and Blake; and great-great-grandson, Theoderic.
The family would like to give a special “thank you” to Hospice of CNY for their exceptional care and attention given to Barbara over the last many months.
There will be a calling hour on Friday, Jan. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m in the church, 7333 O’Brien Road, Baldwinsville. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local animal shelter or food pantry.
