The buzzing was relentless on Monday as commuters tried entering and exiting the busy Broadway-Lafayette stop in Soho. The newly-installed plexiglass fare gates created a significant headache for riders and staff during the afternoon rush. The tap-and-go system appeared to strain under the r ush of traffic, causing the new gates to fail and major delays for riders. At one point a large crowd of at least 30 people had collected in front of the entrance. MTA workers at the station were seen standing next to the doors directing riders through the gates as efficiently as possible.
