Five juveniles crash stolen car in Vigo County
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WISH) — Multiple juveniles, ages 12 to 14, face charges after leading officers from several agencies on a high-speed in a stolen car.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office says the call for the vehicle first came around 5 a.m.
Saturday, when the teen’s mom reported she believed her 14-year-old son stole the car to meet with a friend in Sullivan.
Terre Haute police officers eventually found the stolen vehicle near State Road 46 and State Road 42. They attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Officers soon lost sight of the vehicle.
Sometime later, deputies with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office spotted the car and initiated a second pursuit. The chase moved some from Sullivan County back into Vigo, where more county deputies joined the pursuit.
The chase finally ended when the car tried to turn at a “high rate of speed” and went through a guardrail, crashing into a tree.
Deputies then found five kids in the car, three of the five being reported as runaways. The juveniles were taken to hospitals for “complaints of pain,” but no major injuries were reported.
Three of the juveniles face the following charges:
14-year-old male: Vehicle theft and runaway.
14-year-old male: Runaway and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.
13-year-old female: Runaway (released to a guardian)
The two other kids, a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, were released to their guardians after the incident.
