Two injured in avalanche at Mammoth Mountain

(KRON) — Two people were seriously injured in an avalanche at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort in the eastern Sierra Nevada Friday.
The victims were patrollers with the Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol, the resort said. The pair was performing avalanche mitigation work on Lincoln Mountain at about 7:30
a.m. when they were swept up in the avalanche. The victims were rushed to Mammoth Hospital for their injuries.
“One patroller sustained serious injuries and is being transported out of the area for further care, the second patroller is being evaluated with possible broken bones,” the Mammoth Mountain ski resort said.

4 shot at San Jose business early Friday morning
The avalanche happened before the ski lifts opened that morning. The resort shut down its slopes for the day following the emergency.
Mammoth Mountain has received more than 5 feet of snow since December 23.
