Broncos at Chiefs grades: Ball control offense powers Denver to Christmas win
Dec 25, 2025
The Denver Broncos (13-3) defeated the Kansas City Chiefs (6-10) on Christmas night at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Here are grades on the Broncos’ performance from Thursday’s 20-13 win:
Offense
It’s not about style points with the Broncos offense. Denver only scored 20 points and
won by seven despite having the ball for over 39 minutes. Denver had three drives of 14 plays and one of 16. Bo Nix ran and passed for a touchdown in the win. Rookie RJ Harvey scored the winning touchdown and rushed for 43 yards. Denver’s offense got the job done.
Grade: B
Defense
This unit did what they were expected to do against Chiefs third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun. The only time Kansas City was able to score was when it had short fields. There was no way the Denver defense was giving up a long drive. The Broncos had just one sack but flustered the inexperienced quarterback and held Kansas City to 139 total yards. In the end, Denver still had to make the important stop with the game on the line.
Grade: A
Special teams
Kicker Wil Lutz hit two field goals and two extra points in the win. The one blemish was a big punt return by the Chiefs that led to a field goal, tying the game at 13.
Grade: B
Coaching
On a short week and after a tough loss, head coach Sean Payton’s team didn’t pass the eye test at first. It became clear he wanted to control the clock and the Broncos won the game with that plan. Barely beating the depleted Chiefs won’t quiet the Broncos’ critics, but Payton won’t care as Denver closes in on the AFC West title and a No. 1 seed.
