A dog was abandoned outside Google on Christmas Eve. Then Reddit came to the rescue
Dec 24, 2025
(KRON) -- On Wednesday, a post appeared on the Bay Area sub-Reddit about a dog that had been apparently abandoned in the South Bay. The dog, which appeared to be a white pit bull, was found tied to a light pole outside Google's Sunnyvale office.
"Found this dog tied to a light pole in Google Sunnyv
ale office this morning," the poster wrote. "Thankfully since Google has security 24/7, they have spotted the dog in the morning and called police since the animal control center is closed."
"The dog looked soooo sad and was very skinny!" they added. "They seemed to be scared of me a little bit cuz they backed away when I approached standing up. The poor thing had a lot of scars on its face."

The post was accompanied by a number of photos of the dog, staring out timidly from behind the light pole it was tied to with a red rope.
"I saw the dog on the way out and came back with some kibble I had at home, and they started to eat right away," the poster continued. "What a horrible human being to abandon your dog ON CHRISTMAS EVE!!!!!"
That's when Reddit came to the rescue.
"I will pick him up now. Where is the exact location?" chimed in a commenter on the post who identified themselves as being from a dog boarding facility in Mountain View. That commenter turned out to be Cassandra Lopez, the general manager of CityDog! Club.
Lopez was scrolling on Reddit on her lunch when she happened upon the post.
After some confusion, the original poster replied with the abandoned dog's exact location. Within about half an hour of seeing the post, Lopez was with the dog and Sunnyvale police, who were on their way before she was.
"I'm with him now! He's a little skiddish (sic) -- understandably so," Lopez posted. "Sunnyvale PD has arrived and we are working together to find Google (we've renamed him) a safe place moving forward."
"Big, huge, massive shout out to you Reddit! Thank you for getting me to the right place at the right time," she added. "Sending good vibes to you all, happy holidays! From all of us at Citydog! Club in Mountain View."
When Lopez reached him, she found the dog to be "in pretty rough shape," she told KRON4. The abandoned pooch appeared skinny, skittish and had visible scarring.
"If I had to guess I'd say this dog came from a fighting situation," she said.
As a result of Lopez and Reddit's quick reactions, "Google" is now in the capable hands of Sunnyvale Animal Control and will be put in a shelter.
On Reddit, where sentiments can go any number of ways, the post and its outcome struck a rare warm note of holiday cheer and generosity.
"Thank you so much. Merry Christmas. Your (sic) such a good person," read one comment.
"Thanks to the power of Reddit we were able to help this poor dog so quickly! Love this update and Merry Christmas," read another.
"You are awesome for taking the time and effort to do this. Would like to contribute to Google's care until he finds forever home," read another.
"Hey there! We can provide some supplies like kibble and treats and may be a blanket and some toys," read another. "Let me know where I can drop these off."
"That poor lil boy was probably so scared," wrote another. "You're a Christmas miracle for real."
Another commenter simply replied, "Reddit is so awesome sometimes."
