Trump pick and chooses tooInteresting that you bring to readers’ attention Colorado senators “playing favorite.” While at the same time President Donald Trump’s purely political retribution campaign continues based on Colorado’s unwillingness to release Tina Peters to federal custody — a nd Trump’s Pardon. Denying federal funds for disaster relief and eliminating NCAR are huge hits to Colorado’s economy and nothing more than pure political reasons. Trump excels at this. Another example of the most corrupt president in our history. James Stolz Colorado Springs ‘Peace’ is Trump’s cover for hot war-makingOur president says his aim is peace but at the same time he forges ahead with his real program — war. He is bringing the “peace” of regime change to Venezuela by blowing up boats in the Caribbean. He brought “peace” to Gaza by negotiating a “ceasefire” that allows Israel to continue with almost daily warmaking. He is making big city streets peaceful and free of crime in America by launching military operations there. The real goal of his peace through strength program is oil, land for real estate, and control of people. Our president doesn’t really care about regime change if Maduro allows him to confiscate massive amounts of oil. Trump doesn’t really care about peace in Gaza if Netanyahu allows him to develop a Middle East Riviera there. Our president does not care about stopping crime in New York if Mayor Eric Adams greenlights his operations against immigrants there. These and other peace “deals” the president brays about constantly are only covers for his illicit hot war-making adventures. Kimball Shinkoskey Woods Cross, Utah Beauty in the eye of the beholder with ACA, BBBThe recent “Your Viewpoint” letter from Ms. Deana Kamm prompts some truth perspective. First, the irony is palpable when one decries the exorbitant increase in health cost rising under a law coined as the “Affordable Care Act.” Obama care has never been “affordable.” As a chief executive running a large business, I saw firsthand the damage wrought by this ill-advised law, resulting in skyrocketing health care costs. To be sure, there are positive aspects of Obamacare, such as pre-existing condition protections. However, Obamacare is a cost-plus setup for the insurance companies whereas the “plus” or fee is capped at some 3% to 4% per year, yet the “cost” is controlled by the insurance companies with zero incentive for them to keep the cost down. The higher the cost, the larger the fee. The Alice in Wonderland juxtaposition of the Democrats authoring a law that benefits large insurance businesses at the expense of the people is something to behold.   Further irony, or should we call it gaslighting by our government, is the “temporary” definition of these expiring COVID-19 era subsidies. The very same people who are kicking and screaming about the expiring so-called temporary subsidies, are the very same people who put temporary provision in place (maybe this was their plan all along). The party who put these subsidies in place are ensuring people making 400% above the poverty level, up to $400,000 per year, receive the subsidies. (This makes up two-thirds of the recipients of the subsidies.) Lest we forget, the proponents of extending the subsidies label the Trump tax cuts as favoring the billionaires, yet if Trump would not have extended the tax cuts, then the middle class would have been hit with one of the largest tax increases in history. Let’s recap, the left cozies up to the rapacious insurance companies, go to bat for those making more than a quarter-of-a-million dollars per year, yet are okay with reducing take-home pay for median income households by $5,000 per year. The Affordable Care Act is not affordable, the Inflation Reduction Act did nothing of the sort, and I guess “temporary” status is intended to be permanent. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the “One, Big Beautiful Bill” should resemble Kate Upton to the median-income earners as the bill provides more than $600 billion in new tax relief to middle-class households David Nelson Colorado Springs ...read more read less
