Mottville Fire Department celebrates 100 years of service
Dec 22, 2025
On Dec. 13, the Mottville Fire Department celebrated its 100th anniversary with a gathering at The Lodge.
Leading up to the gathering, the Skaneateles Town Board approved a proclamation honoring this important milestone.
Town Supervisor Chris Legg read the resolution which notes that on Sept. 28, 19
25, the Mottville Fire Company was formed to protect and serve the resident of Mottville and the surrounding area.
“The faithful volunteers have provided continuous, 24-hour service to the Mottville Fire District and stand ready to provide mutual aid to other area departments as needed,” Legg read.
The resolution goes on to outline some of the history of the department where initially 35 men voted to form the district and today 44 members continue to serve.
The department had a sparse beginning in 1925 but hag grown significantly.
According to Legg, the department began with “…just a couple fire extinguishers and a hand-drawn hose cart graciously donated from the Skaneateles Fire Department. Over the years they have worked tirelessly to improve their equipment and training which now includes: two squads, engine 2, a 75’ ladder truck, a utility terrain vehicle, an enclosed equipment trailer, and will soon be adding an F-550 brush truck and a rescue pumper truck.”
In the resolution, the town board commended all who have served since the beginning to the present day.
“We would also like to thank all the residents of the Mottville Community for continuing their support both financially and spiritually of their all-volunteer fire department for this past century,” Legg read. “The Skaneateles Town Board commends the hundreds of volunteers over the past 100 years of the Mottville Fire Company for their exceptional service to our community. We wish to thank them for the countless hours they have spent serving the community, putting themselves in harm’s way, while giving of their own personal time away from their family and loved ones to serve others.”
The resolution closes with an eye toward the future.
“Be it resolved, on this 13th day of December, 2025, the Town Board of the Town of Skaneateles hereby recognizes, commends and thanks each and every member of the Mottville Fire Company, both past and present, for their invaluable service to the Mottville, Skaneateles Falls, and Skaneateles Communities, and wishes them continued success and safe operations for the next 100 years,” Legg said.
