A large power outage left more than 125,000 PGE customers without electricity in San Francisco Saturday, according to the company. The PGE Outage Center first reported the outage was affecting 24,842 customers, but a few minutes later, PGE told NBC Bay Area the outage was affecting 39,520 househo lds in the areas of Richmond, Sunset, Presidio, Golden Gate Park and parts of downtown. The outage later grew, and just before 4:30 p.m., PGE announced the outage was affecting around 130,000 customers. Hours later, the company announced the outage was affecting 125,092 customers. Officials warned traffic lights in these areas might be impacted and advise that if the traffic signal has gone dark, to treat it as a four-way stop. According to the website, the outage was first reported at 10:10 a.m. and is expected to be restored at around 3:40 p.m., but PGE told NBC Bay Area the outage started at around 1:10 p.m. and the estimated time of restoration is unknown. Waymo officials told NBC Bay Area on Saturday evening that they will be temporarily suspending their services in the city due to the power outage. The San Francisco Fire Department reported a one-alarm fire at a PGE substation located at 8th and Mission Street. The fire department said they were working to shut down the power and extinguish the fire with carbon dioxide, but it is unknown if the fire and the outage are related. This is a developing story.
