Judge releases 2 accused of leading cops on chase, West Lawn crash after string of power tool burglaries

Two men in a stolen car who led police on a 20-mile long chase that ended in a crash after fleeing the burglary of a father and son's work van in Lake View have now been accused in three more burglaries. During a Friday hearing, a judge released Kavion Davenport, 18, and Eugene Davenport, 19, who w
ere both charged with four counts of felony burglary, court records show. Eugene was also charged with receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing, and Kavion Davenport was additionally charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass to a vehicle. In each of the four burglaries they are accused of, the two allegedly took power tools, according to court records. A trio of burglaries started around 9:25 a.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of North Lawndale Avenue before hundreds of dollars of work equipment was taken from a work van about an hour later in the 4100 block of North Greenview Avenue, according to police and the victim, 50-year-old Gerardo Lopez-Moreno. His son tried to lock the burglar inside the van.

Shortly after the van was burglarized, Kavion and Eugene Davenport allegedly burglarized another vehicle in the 1700 block of West Wellington Avenue, officials said. Authorities also linked Kavion and Eugene Davenport to a fourth burglary that occurred around 4:45 a.m. Nov. 4 in the 4900 block of West Nelson Street. They, along with a 16-year-old boy, were taken into custody about an hour and a half later after a 20-mile long police chase across the city. It ended when the stolen 2019 Honda Accord they were in crashed into a building and gate in the 7100 block of South Kedvale Avenue in West Lawn, officials said.Earlier, police said the boy was charged with burglary and criminal trespass to a vehicle in the same case.The stolen 2019 Honda Accord was taken from a 30-year-old woman sometime between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, officials said. They are due back in court Wednesday.
