A magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred 16 miles north-northeast of Warner Springs at 6:52 a.m. Friday, briefly producing light shaking in parts of northern San Diego County, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The temblor, which originated 8.2 miles deep, broke not far from the San Jacinto fault zone, a b ranch of the San Andreas system. The San Jacinto typically produces small, and occasionally moderate, quakes. But it’s capable of much bigger ones.
