Authorities believe a 32-year-old man is responsible for setting off the 2-alarm fire at 3170 N. Century St., last weekend. The Colorado Springs Police Department released surveillance footage of a person of interest in the case on Wednesday, and witnesses helped investigators identify him as Dem etri Medina, according to an update Thursday from the department. Demetri Medina, 32, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025. Colorado Springs police say he is a suspect in a arson case. The picture is from surveillance footage showing Medina at the scene. (Courtesy of Colorado Springs police). Medina was arrested late Thursday night and taken to the El Paso County jail, where records show he is being held without bond. The blaze was found in a large pile of Styrofoam and construction materials in an area surrounded by industrial and warehouse buildings, police said. As the fire grew, a smoke plume from just north of Fillmore Street and east of Nevada Avenue became visible from across the city. Responding firefighters quickly realized the fire was getting too big and required additional resources, so they sounded a second alarm. After about 45 minutes, the fire was knocked down, and the spread to any neighboring buildings was prevented. No one was injured.
