San Francisco makes sandbags available ahead of rainy stretch
Dec 18, 2025
The Bay Area appears to be in for a stretch of rainy days.
If the weather forecast holds, Thursday may be the last dry day the region sees for some time.
In San Francisco, the public works department has sandbags at the ready for residents and businesses.
“We have plenty of sandbags on ha
nd,” said Rachel Gordon with San Francisco Public Works. “Even if it looks like the supply is running low where people can pick them up, we’ve got plenty more close by that we will bring in if the supply starts to go down. You can get up to 10 sandbags.”
Public works is also in the process of making sure storm drains are clear.
“When our cleaning crews are going through the city on their regular rounds, if they see leaves or small amounts of debris over the storm drains, they sweep them up, get them in the truck so the drains are clear and the rain can go down when it’s here,” Gordon said. “It really helps prevent localized flooding.”
