Six years after they met at work on Capitol Hill, Abbie, from Franklin, Tennessee, and Leo, from Richmond, got engaged on a springtime trip to Nantucket—a place famous for its lush hydrangeas—with espresso martinis in hand.

At their June wedding just over a year later, an espresso martini bar and lush arrangements of blue hydrangeas were two of the highlights of their black-tie wedding at the Waldorf Astoria in DC. Other elements of the design—which included a neutral color palette with shades of light and dusty blue with gold accents—were American flag favors, and a three-tier wedding cake, designed to echo the floral motif of the bride’s dress.
