After releasing snapshot enrollment figures for Texas high schools (embedded below), the UIL has released updated conference and division cutoff numbers for reclassification.
The updated cutoff numbers drop the threshold for Conference 6A from 2,275 students enrolled by 60 to 2,215, and now inclu
de 251 high schools from across the state.
The new conference cutoff numbers look like this.
Conference 6A: 2,215 and above and includes 251 high schools.
Conference 5A: 1,305 to 2,214 and includes 250 high schools.
Conference 4A: 550 to 1,304 and includes 224 high schools.

Conference 2A: 105 to 245 and includes 225 high schools.
Conference 1A: 104.9 and below and includes 223 high schools.

Conference 2A Division I from 175.6 to 245.9 and includes 103 schools
Conference 2A Division II from 105 to 175.5 and includes 102 schools

Our partners at The Dallas Morning News said the drop in student population for the Class 6A cutoff means 12-time state champion Aledo will test its dominance in 6A next season and that the Frisco ISD will have a Class 6A school for the first time. The paper reported that 2025 6A Division II state finalist DeSoto could play in 5A Division I unless it opts to stay in the top class.
The conference cutoffs for football, basketball, and volleyball may differ by campus. The UIL lists the cutoffs by sport here.
The UIL is expected to release district realignments on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons.
