"We are aware of an employee who exhibited extremely concerning off-hours behavior," Strava said. "We don't condone violence of any kind and this does not reflect the standards we expect of our team. This past Monday, we made the decision to end the individual's employment."
According to Miguel Marchese, a bartender who was working at Hazie's on Saturday and posted the initial video, the incident erupted after Afkari and her date were refused service for appearing intoxicated.
In the video (watch it in the player above), Afkari can be seen physically and verbally assaulting several members of staff. As the scene escalates, Afkari and her date are ushered outside by a group of staff and customers, including Marchese.
Once outside, Afkari is seen grabbing ahold of Marchese's hair. In his telling, she only let go when he grabbed her phone from her.
“I’m able to grab her phone hoping it would give her an incentive to let me go, and it does. I grab the phone, she lets go of my hair finally, and I throw it," he said.
After the bartender throws the phone, Afkari is seen rushing toward him before he trips her and sends her to the pavement.
“I kind of just need to neutralize this situation just for a quick second and yeah, she stumbles on the concrete, and you think that’d be enough, but it wasn’t,” said Marchese. “She gets back up she yells at her boyfriend that he’s not man enough and he starts to re-engage in fighting with some other people.”
It was around that time that police arrived, arrested Afkari and transported her to SF County Jail where she was detained for public intoxication. According to SFPD, none of the victims wanted to press charges against Afkari for battery or assault.
