Weddle made the remarks during a specially called meeting held Tuesday, where council members considered the amended budget along with transparency and pay plan ordinances. The discussion quickly turned contentious as the mayor told council members the approved changes could lead to job cuts within the city. The meeting featured heated exchanges between the mayor and several council members after Weddle outlined the potential impact of the budget amendments on city staffing. He said the changes could force the city to eliminate positions in order to remain financially stable. According to Weddle, he emailed an alternative budget proposal to council members on Monday ahead of the meeting, offering a different approach that he said would avoid layoffs while still addressing financial concerns.
