Police believe an attack aboard a subway in Brooklyn did not have connections to antisemitism, but a separate attack just a day later may have been hate-related. Video shared on social media Monday night showed two men grabbing and shoving two Jewish men on a 3 train near the Nostrand Avenue stat ion in Crown Heights. According to police, the victims said the men walked up to them, grabbed them by their jackets and threatened them. The video does not show what transpired before the argument. The men who allegedly made the threats got off the train at Nostrand Avenue. It was not immediately clear where they went from there. No arrests had yet been made, police said. The victims, both in their early 20s, did not report any injuries. Both Mayor Eric Adams and MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber condemned what happened, calling it hateful and despicable. Later Tuesday night, police said that after watching multiple videos of the incident, the do not believe the victims were targeted because they are Jewish. “There are comments on social media suggesting that antisemitic comments were made, but we do not currently have evidence of those comments. It appears that this originated over a dispute about seats on the subway,” police said in a statement. But less than 24 hours later, in the same Crown Heights neighborhood, police said a suspect stabbed a Jewish man at the corner of Kingston Avenue and Lincoln Place. The incident started as a verbal dispute around 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to police. The suspect in the case tried to walk away, but the victim followed him, leading to another argument — which quickly turned physical. The attacker pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the victim with it, then left. Despite his stab wound, the victim followed his attacker even farther. Police said the victim told them the ordeal started with the suspect making antisemitic remarks. No arrests had yet been made in that more recent case either. An investigation is ongoing. ...read more read less
