A new warning sticker was placed on the cryptocurrency ATM inside Kure CBD and Vape near 56th and Holdrege on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025. (Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Dec. 16)–A partnership has been established between Lincoln Police and AARP Nebraska in launching an educational campaign abou t a new city ordinance that helps protect older adults from being victims of cryptocurrency fraud. So far in 2025, Lincoln residents have lost more than $11-million in cryptocurrency scams. Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow says the new ordinance approved by the City Council on November 17 and goes into effect on Christmas Eve requires all businesses that operate or provide access to cryptocurrency ATMs have written notices posted about fraud risks. “The Lincoln Police Department understands how devastating it is to become a victim of financial fraud. We encourage everyone to have conversations with loved ones about scams so we can all work together to be part of the solution. Our goal is to prevent more people from losing their hard-earned money,” Chief Morrow said. Dylan Reinke is the store manager of Kure CBD and Vape off of 56th and Holdrege, where the first warning sticker was posted Tuesday. He said their company has policy where they notice something suspicious they can talk to the person and let them what they feel may be happening. “But we’re not allowed to stop them or tell them they can’t use it,” Reinke added. Joyce Beck with AARP Nebraska explained to KFOR News and other media on Tuesday about that the warning sticker says. “Stop and think about, ‘Could this possibly be fraud? Could this possibly be someone trying to scam you?’ Just stop and think,” Beck said. Visit the page at lincoln.ne.gov/Scams.
