LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Fayette Education Foundation says Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program in Fayette County will be temporarily paused after the January 20–26 book mailing because of funding challenges. According to the foundation, children who are currently enrolle d in the program will still receive their January book as scheduled. After that mailing, the program will be placed on hold. Nearly 8,000 families in Fayette County are being notified about the pause. Foundation officials say rising costs and limited funding prompted the decision. The Imagination Library program requires up to $120,000 each year in local support to continue operating in Fayette County. The foundation says the state covers roughly half of the total cost, leaving the remaining portion to be funded locally. Foundation leaders say they are actively exploring funding options in hopes of restoring the program and will continue to provide updates to families who are enrolled. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides free, age-appropriate books each month to children from birth until age 5, helping promote early childhood literacy.
