Tammie Conti not only is mourning the loss of her son, but she is looking for answers. Loren Badillo, 29, died following a hit-and-run collision at the 4900 block of McCoy Avenue in San Jose on Saturday night. Despite San Jose police confirming it’s investigating Badillo’s death, the Liver more native’s family and friends are canvassing the area and talking to neighbors in hopes of learning what took place. Conti says she believes her son, who graduated from Dublin High School and had just started a new job in AI, engaged in an argument with his girlfriend, prompting him to exit his car. As he walked home — about a mile away — he was hit by an unidentified driver. “I don’t understand what happened,” Conti said. “Why didn’t you stay? I know it wasn’t right to leave my son there by himself.” Badillo’s roommate, Marianna Belmares, is struggling with the loss of a great friend. “He had a way of bringing light into every room,” Belmares said. “He always made you feel welcome and accepted. He had such a beautiful heart.” Police have not released any description of the vehicle that hit Badillo. James Conti, Badillo’s stepfather, also hopes the community can lead him and his family to answers. “I asked the community to come forward if they have a ring camera facing the street,” he said. “We really need people to do the right thing.” Roger, a local neighbor who did not provide his last name, says that speeding is an ongoing problem on McCoy Avenue, located in the southern edge of San Jose. “Ten cars are going fast. The lights are poor, very poor at night,” the neighbor said. “It’s pretty dangerous.” Badillo was planning to visit his mother in Idaho for Christmas. Now, it’s Conti planning her son’s funeral instead. “He was a good spirit a good soul he always made us laugh,” Conti added. “He was always full of life. I don’t know what we’ll do without that light in our life.” ...read more read less
